Artist statement
In meiner künstlerischen Praxis erzähle ich surreale Geschichten vom Körper zwischen Begehren und Abwehr. Meine besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dabei Diskursen der Wertung zwischen Hochkultur und Kitsch.
Geprägt wurde meine künstlerische Sprache in der kreativen Subkultur selbstorganisierter Räume der Berliner Wendezeit zwischen Kunst, Musik und Performance. Zusätzlich genährt wird sie auch aus meinem Studium der Sozialanthropologie.
Alltägliche Stoffe wie Styropur, Silikon, Haar und Textil verbinde ich mit hochwertigem Porzellan und Keramik. Mich interessiert, welche Emotionen unterschiedliche Materialien auslösen und welche Narrationen mit ihnen verknüpft sind. Daraus entwickeln sich anthropomorphe Assemblagen, die ich mit Licht, Motoren und Sound im Raum inszeniere. Es entsteht eine Welt mit hybriden Wesen und Situationen, in der Körper, Material und kulturelle Wertungen neu verhandelt werden.

In my artistic practice, I tell surreal stories about the body, exploring the tension between attraction and repulsion. I am particularly interested in questioning the value judgements placed on so-called high culture and kitsch.
My artistic language was shaped by the creative subculture of the self-organised spaces that emerged in Berlin after reunification. It also draws on my studies in social anthropology.
Combining everyday materials such as polystyrene, silicone, hair, and textiles with fine porcelain and ceramics, I explore the emotions different materials evoke and the narratives associated with them.
The resulting anthropomorphic assemblages are staged in space using light, motors, and sound. A world of hybrid beings and situations takes shape, in which the body, materials, and cultural value judgements are reconsidered.
